Name given to gases in the atmosphere that absorb infrared rays, causing the atmosphere to heat up more. The use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas, along with human-caused factors like deforestation, are among the primary causes of greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere.  The increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere accelerates global warming.
